About Open Blind

Local knowledge. Honest hunting. Real opportunities.

Founded by a lifelong South Louisiana outdoorsman and pilot, built around one idea: quality duck hunting shouldn’t require a long-term lease, a camp membership, or years of networking.

01 Our Story

Meet Thomas Wiltz.

Thomas Wiltz was born and raised in South Louisiana, where hunting the marshes and rice fields with family and friends became a lifelong passion. From an early age, the outdoors wasn’t just a hobby — it was a way of life.

After graduating from St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Thomas pursued a career in agriculture and became a crop duster pilot. Over the past five years, he has spent thousands of hours working alongside farmers and landowners, helping them produce the best crops possible while building lasting relationships throughout South Louisiana with both the landowners and many hunters he has crossed paths with.

Through those relationships, Thomas recognized a growing disconnect between farmers, landowners, and hunters. As access to quality hunting land became more limited and lease prices continued to rise, many hunters found it increasingly difficult to enjoy the traditions they grew up with. That realization led to the creation of Open Blind Hunting and Leasing LLC.

Our mission is simple: connect farmers and landowners with responsible hunters through an affordable, self-guided hunting lease system. By eliminating high upfront costs and offering an ever-changing selection of quality hunting locations, we make it easier for hunters to experience South Louisiana while providing landowners with a trusted, honest leasing solution.

At Open Blind Hunting and Leasing LLC, we believe hunting is more than a sport — it’s a tradition worth preserving. Our company is built on honesty, respect for the land, and a commitment to making South Louisiana hunting accessible for generations to come.

02 What Sets Us Apart

We care about the hunting.

Every blind we operate has decoys set before you arrive and picked up the same day, every single day, whether the blind is hunted or not. We’ve seen firsthand what happens when decoys are left sitting for days at a time — it educates birds, pressures areas unnecessarily, and hurts hunting opportunities for everyone. We refuse to operate that way.

We also won’t book you into a blind we know isn’t holding birds just because you’re willing to pay. If conditions aren’t right, we’ll tell you. If a blind isn’t producing, we’re not going to send you there just to fill a date on the calendar.

03 We Grew Up Here

Marsh, fields, and coastal habitat.

We grew up hunting these marshes, fields, and coastal habitats of South Louisiana. We know how birds move, how weather affects them, and where hunting opportunities are developing throughout the season. That local knowledge is part of what you’re paying for.

Every photo, hunting report, and property update shared on this site comes from locations we actively manage, lease, or have permission to access. What you see is real, and what we promise is exactly what we deliver.

At Open Blind Leasing, we offer day-rate access to private duck blinds across South Louisiana that are brushed, maintained, and ready when your group arrives. No guides, no memberships, and no unnecessary complications — just you, your friends, and a quality blind on land we actually have access to and hunt ourselves.

Open Blind Hunting & Leasing was built around a simple idea: quality duck hunting shouldn’t require a long-term lease, camp membership, or years of networking to access great opportunities. We provide a premier self-guided experience — decoys, rigorously brushed blinds, and access to an ever-growing collection of blinds.

Founded by a lifelong South Louisiana outdoorsman and pilot, Open Blind combines local knowledge, real-world scouting experience, and relationships with landowners to create hunting opportunities that work for everyone involved. We partner directly with landowners, farmers, and property managers to provide access to managed hunting blinds throughout South Louisiana.

04 Our Goal

Make South Louisiana duck hunting accessible again.

You shouldn’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a lease, navigate club politics, or commit to a long-term membership just to enjoy a quality hunt.

01

Flat rate, per blind

You pay a flat rate for the blind, hunt on your own schedule, and enjoy the freedom to hunt your way. No per-person fees, no surprise charges, no hidden costs.

02

Any group size

Blinds that accommodate a variety of group sizes — from smaller parties of three to five hunters to larger groups of six to eight.

03

Self-guided, always

Whether you’re a lifelong duck hunter, a busy professional who doesn’t want the commitment of a full lease, or someone looking for a place to hunt with friends and family.

04

Bring the dog

Absolutely. Bringing your dog along is one of the freedoms of hunting with us — and one more reason a self-guided blind beats a club.
