Nine days of fast, low, warm-weather shooting. Blue wings and green wings buzzing a flooded rice field before the big ducks ever show up.
Teal season is the first crack at a South Louisiana rice field, and it hunts nothing like November. Warm mornings, short sleeves, and birds that are on the deck before you hear them.
Blue wings dominate the early split and they do not circle. They come in low, hard and in bunches, which makes teal season the best possible introduction to the marsh for a new hunter — and the most fun nine days of the year for everybody else.
Daily bag limit is six teal, possession eighteen. Blue wing, green wing and cinnamon all count. Because the season is only nine days long, teal blinds book fast — call early.
